The new car and light commercial vehicle registrations for May were published this week. New car registrations were up by 3.4%, with an encouraging growth in the private segment of 10.1%, year to date the market is down 6.8%. The LCV market saw a modest increase of 2.4%. The NFDA is continuing its lobbying activity with its Parliamentary Engagement Programme. A number of dealership visits have already taken place around the country with more scheduled over the coming months. Today, I met with the Rt Hon Pat McFadden MP at Jardine Audi dealership in Wolverhampton with CEO Neil Williamson. We highlighted the importance of the retail automotive sector in terms of investment, employment and training, and discussed topics such as diesel, electric vehicles and WLTP. The Government has now published a number of presentations on its vision of frameworks for the UK-EU partnerships post-Brexit. The future economic partnership is broken down into ten key areas for agreement between the UK and EU, one of them is transport. We have included a summary in today’s the news.
