Tom and Gabi have driven almost 2,000 miles across Europe alongside 50 other teams to raise money for Ben, the charity supporting those who work in the automotive industry and their families.

Organised by Car Dealer Magazine, Bangers4Ben celebrated its tenth year this year, the event has raised more than £350,000 for Ben to date.

On the first day, the bangers met at the Brooklands Motor Museum in Weybridge before driving through the Channel Tunnel to finally head to Reims in France.

On day two, the troops had a mission to complete: to drive through the Black Forest. The teams required “a co-driver that you trust to give good directions and a driver who is alert enough to listen to them as we’d be going paper based with our instructions, rather than following the sat-nav”, as Car Dealer said. The last stop of the day was Stuttgart’s Motor World, where visitors could enjoy a unique collection of classics and supercars.

Day three saw the teams drive from Stuttgart to Bruges in Belgium. The NFDA’s space-themed 2007 Vauxhall Vectra was pushed to its limits on the famous German autobahn. The highlight of the day was the visit to the Nürburgring; however, the circuit was closed for most of the day due to the thick fog. The disappointment was offset by a beautiful, scenic route through Eifel in Germany.

The final stretch brought the teams to the Rockingham Motor Speedway for some Top Gear-style challenges such as a 0-60mph on the straight, two laps in the inner circuit and a handbrake turn. The last day finished with a black-tie event to celebrate Bangers 4 Ben’s tenth anniversary.

The car is now at auction and all the proceeds from its sale will go to Ben.

NFDA would like to thank all our supporters for being so generous!
