This week saw Parliament reject the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal. We continued to highlight to government the importance of our sector in terms of revenue, investment and employment levels and urged the Government to provide clarity about its future plans to support businesses and consumers. On Tuesday, I attended the inaugural meeting of the Government’s Home Office task force chaired by the Policing Minister, Nick Hurd. The new taskforce has been set up to reduce and prevent vehicle crime and promote best practice, the meeting was attended by a number of representatives from the industry. The latest figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) showed that European new passenger car registrations were flat in 2018 (+0.1%) but declined in the last months of the year because of the introduction of the new WLTP testing procedure. The effects of WLTP were similar across all the largest European markets, including the UK.
