At the time of writing (Monday 23 March 2020), DVLA continues to operate a full set of services, both to business customers and the general public. However, this is highly likely to change in the coming days, as staff numbers are going to be particularly impacted by school closures.

From today, Monday 23 March 2020, DVLA's Contact Centre opening hours are changing, they will be open from Monday to Friday 8.30am until 5.30pm.

DVLA’s priority is to keep staff safe and also to help keep the country moving. As an example, delivery drivers have an incredibly important part to play in that so DVLA is prioritising applications from HGV drivers where possible. With a rapidly changing situation and a reduced workforce, DVLA will see a delay in processing some applications in the weeks ahead.

They are also already seeing an impact on driving licence applications where the driver’s medical condition means they need input from a doctor or consultant before they can issue a licence, as of course doctors within the NHS are focused on efforts to deal with Covid-19.
