Franchised dealers have celebrated the arrival of the new 71-plate through their social media channels with pictures of new vehicle handovers as they look forward to a busy month.
How do Number Plates work?

New cars registered from 1 September 2021 onwards will display the new ‘71’ plate. The number plate system works as follows: the first two letters correspond to where the car is registered in the country, LA to LY for London, and MA to MY for Manchester, for example. The two numbers are an age identifier, they change every 6 months at the beginning of March and September: 60 for September 2010, and 11 for March 2011, 61 for September 2011, 12 for March 2012 and so on; September 2021’s digits will be 71. The last three letters are allocated randomly and provide the vehicle with a unique identity. |
