NFDA will be working with Auto Trader to bring you the latest used car pricing analysis on a monthly basis.

The monthly report will be powered by Auto Trader’s Retail Price Index with the aim to bring you up to date on the latest performance and pricing observations from across the UK automotive market. The report analyses demand, supply, the resulting “market health” and price movement, based on Year-on-Year growth on a like-for-like basis.

January 2021 summary

At +7.4%Year-on-Year, January marked ten consecutive months of like-for-like price growth. As a result, the average asking price of a used car is now over £500 more than in January 2020.

Although the strong demand experienced in recent months eased slightly in January, retail prices still recorded a robust performance compared to the previous year. Supply was constrained during the second half of 2020 and this is now more evident, particularly in cars aged 1-5 years, hatchbacks and SUVs.

On the electric vehicle side, supply grew significantly, but demand is also ahead of previous years’ levels.
