During his Budget speech, the Chancellor announced the changes that will face Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rates from 1 April 2021.
The Chancellor announced:
- an increase in VED rates for cars, vans and motorcycles in line with the retail price index (RPI) for vehicle licences taken out from 1 April 2021.
- a freeze on the Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) VED rates from 1 April 2021.
- a 12-month extension to the HGV Levy suspension from 1 August 2021.
