Dear Colleagues,

Today I met with James Voortman, Chief Executive AADA (Australian NFDA), and Miles Trower, Partner TLT LLP / NFDA retained legal adviser to discuss a wide variety of issues including Agency models, Block Exemption, economic situation both here and in Australia and developments on these issues. Further discussions included EVs and charging, NFDA’s EVA programme and NFDA’s Dealer Attitude Survey (DAS). We also discussed Federauto, the Italian dealer body, succeeding in receiving new automotive distribution legislation. The new law contains regulations on the minimum duration of dealer contracts as well as the protection of investments. For more detail on this, please contact me.

In other news, this morning Government announced its Autumn Budget and Spending Review 2022, which included the biggest package of tax cuts in generations. NFDA was particularly pleased to see Government acknowledge the need for added investment towards charging infrastructure in the UK, which will be essential towards the adoption of electric vehicles to consumers. In this edition of NFDA News you will find a complete summary report of the budget and spending review.

Next week, NFDA will be commencing its next round of Regional Meetings. On Tuesday our Southern meeting will be in Cobham and on Wednesday our South-West meeting will take place in Bristol. Meetings will host a briefing on the future of automotive retail, including a presentation from an Auto Trader representative, alongside a market overview and discussion of key industry issues. If you would like to attend, please register through the article in this today’s newsletter.

Finally, next week I will be attending The Labour Party Conferences in Liverpool. We have a number of meetings planned to highlight the ‘Franchised Deale’ in the UK’s contribution to employment and the economy.
