Arnold Clark to represent Chinese EV brand BYD in Scotland – MOTOR TRADER

Arnold Clark is to represent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD early next year.

The partnership will mark another step forward in the UK’s shift towards EVs and reinforce Arnold Clark’s commitment to achieving a net zero carbon future.

The group will open a new retail space dedicated to BYD in Glasgow early 2023. This will be used as a base before expanding out with further locations as volumes rise.

BYD will make its Scottish debut with the launch of one model – the ATTO 3 – with more to follow.

Eddie Hawthorne, group managing director and chief executive, said: ‘We’re delighted to announce our partnership with BYD as their sole Scottish electric vehicle retailer.

Dealer group Vertu has announced a major reshuffle of staff within its Jaguar Land Rover division.

Heading up the changes is James Boyd, who has been promoted to the divisional team after an impressive stint as head of business at Vertu Bolton Jaguar Land Rover.

During his time at the site, he helped transform the dealership into one of the most profitable in the Vertu network and he now become responsible for leading the whole division to maximise its financial performance.

Hendy Group grows profits by 58% in ‘turbulent’ 2021 trading period – AM ONLINE

Hendy Group’s annual financial results for 2021 show that the car retail group delivered a 58.1% uplift in pre-tax profits and 27.2% turnover growth in a “turbulent” climate for car retail.

The South Coast AM100 car retail group reported a profit before tax of £17.56m (2020: £11.1m) alongside a turnover of £931.5m (2020: £732.8m) in the period to December 31, 2021, in results published on Companies House this week.

The retail group described the performance as “a great result achieved in turbulent market conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic”.

Hendy said that it had been able to keep its losses to a “low level” in Q1 2021 – placing many of its staff on flexible furlough – and managed to deliver 60% of its normal sales volumes despite showroom closures enforced by COVID-19 lockdown rules.
