Dear colleagues,

This week revealed the latest car and commercial registration figures for August. Whilst August is typically a quiet month for trading, in the run up to the all-important plate change month of September, it was positive to see the market continue its upward trajectory with buoyant demand. The commercial sector has experienced eight months of consecutive growth, with many traders upgrading their vehicles to be compliant with emission zone standards. The battery electric LCV market, however, is still underperforming and Government must introduce more supporting measures in order to initiate a more radical shift in consumer demand.

We are now entering the closing stages of NFDA’s Dealer Attitude Survey, with just three days remaining before entries will be closed. The deadline for the survey to be completed is Monday 11 September at 5PM and I encourage all members to complete their survey before this deadline as it is essential towards better understanding the challenges and relationships between dealers and manufacturers. For the first time, the Dealer Attitude Survey will be produced under a new data analyst company and will be showcased under a fresh and easily accessible ‘new look’. The survey remains entirely anonymous.

The Driver and Vehicle Agency’s (DVA) has released its decision and a Synopsis of the Consultation Responses report regarding its public consultation on changing the cost of driving tests and vehicle tests, which ran from June 2023 – August 2023. NFDA questioned whether this was a good time to increase fees given the cost-of-living crisis and that these increased fees, notably the retest fees, were too large, especially when the current service is unfit, with a backlog issue, long wait times, and lacking a credible emissions test. The link to the full synopsis can be found here.

Finally, please remember to… SAVE THE DATE, WEDNESDAY 6 DECEMBER 2023!
