Dear Colleague,

This week, the NFDA Parliamentary Engagement Programme returned with a visit to Arnold Clark’s Innovation Centre in Glasgow. We met with Graham Simpson, Member of Scottish Parliament, to discuss the pertinent issues affecting the automotive retail sector. The Innovation Centre provided an ideal showcase to highlight the efforts and investments retailers are putting towards the future of private mobility transport. Franchised dealers are preparing their sites for Government’s net-zero targets by training their sales and aftersales staff and investing into infrastructure to sell EVs; it is therefore essential that Government understands this and matches the sector’s efforts.

There have been several positive headlines this week for retailers. Consumer confidence is on the rise and is at its highest level for 3 months. The consumer confidence index has risen by two points to -22, its highest level since September and the second-highest since January 2022. A hopeful statistic heading into the festive season. Interest rates have also been held for the third time in a row at 5.25%, a key indicator that the economy is in a state of stabilisation and that the necessary hikes of this year have helped to settle inflation.

As we head into Christmas and a new year, I would like to remind you that he NFDA is here to respond, guide and advise on all queries relating to your business. With strong working groups addressing the key issues across the dealership.
