“We are pleased to see that demand for light commercial vehicles was up 11.8% in April”, said Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association which represents commercial vehicle and franchised car retailers across the UK, commenting on the SMMT’s commercial vehicle registration figures.
Figures released today show that 27,880 Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) were registered in the UK last month, 11.8% more than last year.
Robinson continued, “The most relevant growth came again from the 2.5 – 3.5T sector with a 22.8% increase, meaning that 17,660 vehicles were registered against the 14,382 put on UK roads in April 2015.
“With exception of pickups (+35.4%), all other sectors did not perform very well, but thanks to the huge demand for heavy vans, the overall market is up 3.3% year to date.
“Large vans (2.5-3.5T), which are typically used for online sales deliveries, continue to dominate the market and now represent 60% of all commercial vehicles in the UK.
“On the back of last year’s success, we expect the market to remain strong throughout the remainder of the year.”
