“It is positive to see that the new car market continued to thrive during August in what is traditionally a low volume month for car sales”, said Sue Robinson, Director of National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers across the UK, commenting on the SMMT’s new car registration figures.

New car sales figures released today were up 9.6% in August to 79,060 units. This month marks the 42nd consecutive month of growth in the new car market.

Robinson continued, “August is traditionally a small market as buyers wait for the plate change on 1 September before purchasing a new vehicle. Therefore, after such a positive increase in sales during August, we anticipate that sales of the new 65-plate to do very well.”
