“It is extremely encouraging that MEPs have voted in favour of Franck Proust’s report on CARS 2020: towards a strong, competitive and sustainable car industry” said Sue Robinson, Director of National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers across the UK.

The report called for greater transparency and compliance in the relationship between manufacturers and dealers. The report called for the introduction of a code of conduct for manufacturers and dealers specifically around the issues of dealer relocation, multi-branding and compensation entitlement for unjustified termination of the contract by the manufacturer.

Robinson continued “The report reiterates what the NFDA and European car dealers have lobbied for - a fairer commercial relationship between manufacturers and dealers.

“The introduction of a code would be warmly welcomed by dealers across the UK and is a move that the NFDA has lobbied tirelessly for within Europe.

“The NFDA hopes the report will urge Manufacturers to come to an agreement with their dealers to ensure a fairer relationship.”
