The National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) is holding a Consumer Rights Act workshop on Friday 11 September ahead of the new act coming into force on 1 October. The NFDA represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers across the UK.
The event which is being held at the Hilton Hotel Warwick will be an opportunity for dealers to gain a valuable insight into the new act which is due to have a major impact on businesses, and the way in which consumers will be given significant new rights when buying goods and services.
Sue Robinson, NFDA Director comments, “The Consumer Rights Act is the biggest change to consumer legislation for many years and although it combines much of the existing legislation into one place, it does add significant changes that you as a dealer will need to be aware of.
“Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and the issue of satisfactory quality are just a few of the topics that we will be discussing at the workshop.”
Guest speakers on the day will include Miles Trower from TLT Solicitors, who will be giving a presentation on what the legislation means for dealers, and Julian Mason from the National Conciliation Service (NCS) who will be giving a briefing on ADR.

Miles Trower, TLT Solicitors, the NFDA’s retained Solicitor, will give a presentation followed by a Q & A session on what the legislation means for dealers and how they can ensure they can comply and work within the new rules.
Julian Mason, National Conciliation Service will give a briefing on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). ADR is being encouraged by the Government as a cost effective way of dealing with consumer disputes that cannot be resolved between the dealer and the consumer. Julian has worked with Trading Standards for many years. He was instrumental in the development of Cheshire East’s TS Golden Spanner Garage Approval scheme, which was set up in direct response to the DTI Taskforce of 2001 ‘jacking up standards.’ In August 2009 whilst working with Trading Standards he compiled a confidential report for the OFT on vehicle service and repair.
