The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) has appointed Peter Johnson as the new deputy chairman with immediate effect.

Johnson will work alongside current chairman Alec Murray until June 2015 when he will then take over the role as RMI chairman from Alec.

Peter Jones will take over the role of National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) chairman from Peter Johnson at the NFDA executive meeting on 14 October 2014.

Peter Johnson was appointed chairman of the NFDA in July 2011 and is also a non-executive director of Marshall of Cambridge Holdings. His previous roles include chairman of the Rank Group and Senior independent director of Bunzl and the Wates Group. He was chairman of Inchcape from 2006 to 2010 and its chief executive from 2000 to 2006.

Peter Jones is the former chief executive of Lookers, and is to join Vertu Motors as non-executive chairman at the end of the year. He was named industry icon of the year at last year’s NFDA Autumn Ball.
