The Queen today announced a raft of measures, including the Government’s intention to simplify complex laws and protect consumers from unsatisfactory service and to support the growth of the private sector.

Her Majesty the Queen made the announcements while delivering the Government’s legislative programme for 2013-14. The Speech highlighted the Government’s focus to continue work on rebuilding the economy and supporting businesses.

Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association commented "We encourage any steps taken to support the private sector and hope that the Deregulation Bill is effective in reducing burdens to businesses. We acknowledge the Consumer Rights Bill which is designed to promote consumer protection but urge the Government to be mindful of the potential cost and additional regulation to business".

Further bills included the National Insurance Contributions Bill, which will reduce employer National Insurance Contributions costs. Finally, steps were outlined to ensure it becomes typical for those leaving school to start a traineeship or apprenticeship, or go to university.
