“The increase in retail car sales highlights the early signs of a more stable market” said Sue Robinson, Director of the RMI National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers across the UK, commenting on the SMMT’s new car registration figures.

New car sales figures, released today, show month on month sales were up 1.8% compared to March last year. Private registrations showed one of the best monthly increases in the past two years, up 7.4% in March. Sue Robinson continued “March is typically a strong month for new car registrations with the March plate change boosting sales. However the strong increase in private registrations shows some signs of economic recovery with consumers feeling confident enough to commit to purchasing a big ticket item. “In order for the market to remain stable the Government should offer support by reviewing schemes that could improve consumer confidence and boost spending.” ENDS NOTES TO EDITORS: Keely Scanlan, Press Officer Press Office direct line: 020 7307 3422 Press Office fax: 020 7307 3406 Mob: 07980760931 Web: www.rmif.co.uk Email: keely.scanlan@rmif.co.uk
